In Memoriam
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to long-time CSU professor Dr. Tony Koski, who passed away on July 12 after a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. Known as “The Turf Guy” in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, he was a dedicated professor who enjoyed his profession immensely, claiming that he never worked a day in his life. He embraced each day with optimism, gratitude and grace until the very end. He was an integral part of our Master Gardener training and never grew tired of our endless questions about turf. We will miss his enthusiasm, knowledge and willingness to share his time and expertise to make us better gardeners.
He concluded his self-authored obituary with the following sage advice: “May your lawns be green and your trees be healthy. More importantly, maintain friendships with people you love and don’t be afraid to try new things. Don’t be afraid to get close to someone. I realize my passing will be painful for many but know that I am truly happy at this moment. Please don’t look at this as a sad day, but instead as a day to celebrate family and friendships together. In turf we trust.”
