Family Leadership Training Institute

The Family Leadership Training Institute is a full immersion experience of civics, leadership, and self. The curriculum equips families with knowledge and skills to support their engagement with systems at the individual, community, and policy level. Once accepted, emerging family and community leaders participate in a 20-week training that integrates personal and child development, leadership skill development, civic literacy, and civic engagement. The learning experience utilizes a proven implementation model grounded in diversity, shared leadership, and respect for the unique assets of each community.

FLTI starts with a retreat to establish relationships and engage in community-building conversations and activities. Then, Phase One begins – 10 weeks of deep, self-exploration of personal leadership with a diverse group that begins to build a small community where people trust each other and are safe to critically explore our hardest issues. Phase Two is where we look at the nuts and bolts – things from public policy, how a state works, how a city works, and how budgets are made. In order to make this learning real, every participant applies their learning to a personally selected Civic Project.

This training is free for participants through scholarships. Follow the prompts to apply. For more information about FLTI, visit the state FLTI page or contact Taylor Knickel.
