FLTI Week 18

 Dear Leaders,

Just as we discussed budgets last session, evaluation and accountability are also important to our understanding of how to interact with systems, how funding is allocated to certain projects and our role (and power) in seeking change according to outcomes. I am so inspired by our class last Tuesday – each of you dove straight into learning about budgets and didn’t even flinch! As family leaders, knowing these complex and powerful systems is critical to our instigating change.

We will have a guest speaker, Arthur McFarlane II, for this session. I highly recommend you read his bio (attached). Arthur is currently with Children’s Hospital of Colorado after retiring from CDPHE. He is the great-grandson of W.E.B. DuBois and was a 2018 Phase II facilitator at FLTI Five Points.

THIS WEEK:

In Session 18, we will discuss Evaluation, Outcomes and Accountability in the adult room and Logic Models and Evaluating Projects in the youth room.

Adult objectives:

• Recognize and learn how to link goals and outcome measures in order to evaluate programs.
• Understand why evaluation is an important tool for improving the lives of children and families.

Youth objectives:

• Recognize and learn how to link goals and outcome measures in order to evaluate programs.
• Identify positive outcomes for children and ways to measure them related to a specific community program.
• Define a way to evaluate civic projects.

• FLTI of Colorado 10th Anniversary Celebration June 12.
• May 7 is the day Denver will vote on its next Mayor and Initiative 300.

• The Interfaith Alliance of Colorado will host it’s annual Legislative Wrap Up May 30 1:30-3:30 pm at Temple Sinai. See attached flyer for more info.
• The Interfaith Alliance of Colorado, The Colorado Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, and Soul2Soul Sisters are hosting a book event with Nadia Bolz Weber, author of Shameless:A Sexual Reformation. See attached flyer for more info.
• HB19-1032, Comprehensive Human Sexuality Education, is up for a final vote in the Senate Friday, 2/3. If it passes, it goes to the Governor’s desk.
• HB19-1312, The School Vaccination bill, has died in the Senate.
• The Colorado Trust is hiring a vice president & chief financial officer.
• Despite backing from Gov. Jared Polis, a proposed nicotine tax that would have allowed Colorado to double its preschool investment was rejected by the Colorado Senate.
• Voters will see a request on their ballot to let the state keep money that would have otherwise gone to refunds under TABOR, with some of the money to going to K-12 education.
• Denver Youth Leadership Academy applications due May 14.
• Rev Up Your Resume youth workshop May 16 at Mi Casa.
• GED Prep Course in Lakewood May 28.
• Denver Career Fair May 9.
