Battle the Beetle: Do’s and Don’ts to fighting Japanese beetle

A little knowledge goes a long way in the battle against the beetle.
Few garden pests match the destructive power of the Japanese beetle. These invasive beetles are decimating your beloved gardens, leaving nothing but skeletonized leaves and weakened plants in their wake. Join us on the front lines and learn about the insect’s life cycle, suggested plants to avoid in your landscape, pollinator-friendly means of control, and new research being done.
Lisa Mason has been the Horticulture Agent in Arapahoe County for Colorado State University Extension since 2018. She has a Master’s Degree in Entomology from Colorado State University (CSU). Her research focused on using citizen science to monitor native bees in urban areas. She started a citizen science program in Fort Collins called Native Bee Watch, which is growing in the Denver Metro area. She also has a Bachelor’s Degree from CSU double majoring in forestry and theatre. For a decade, she worked at the Colorado State Forest Service headquarters office in Fort Collins office managing the publications program and other statewide outreach and education programs.
