2018 4-H Extravaganza Workshops
February 3, 2018, at Arapahoe County Fairgrounds
9:00 am – 10:30 am: Shooting Sports Safety Orientation- Presenter: Shooting Sports Committee
Any 4-H Member wishing to participate in Shooting Sports clinics or compete in the Shooting Sports contest must attend ONE safety orientation. This is the last orientation that will be offered in 2016.
10:00 am – 3:00 pm: Cloverbud Session: Cloverbuds in Action- Presenters: Jr. Leaders Council
Cloverbuds (4-H members ages 5-7) are welcome to come join us @ Extravaganza for some fun activities! The Arapahoe County 4-H Jr. Leaders Council will be hosting the Cloverbuds in Action and they are excited to see you come out and participate.
Cloverbuds in Action is open during the morning and afternoon sessions!
10:00 am – 11:30 am: Officer Training – Parli Pro, Running Meetings
ANY member or volunteer, even if they are not an officer, is welcome to join us as we will be covering the important topic of Parliamentary Procedure. This will be an overview of commonly used motions and parliamentary procedure situations and how business should be conducted during your club meetings. You will learn about specific officer duties (president/chair, vice-chair/vice presidents, secretary, treasurer, historian and other miscellaneous positions. Finally, this session will offer officers some ideas and resources on how to do and where to find get acquainted and team building activities for their club members so they are excited and involved in the club.
10:30 am – 3:00 pm: MQA Trailer
Please allow 1 ½ hours to get through this training.
At any point during the day, you can complete your MQA! All you need to do is show up and do the self-paced, hands-on MQA and pass the test with an 80% or above. It’s a lot of fun!
11:30 am – 3:00 pm: Colorado 4-H STEM Trailer- Wade Engel, 4-H STEM/K-12 Specialist
Do you want to learn how to get your kids more involved in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math? The 4-H STEM Trailer will be on display for volunteers, educators and 4-H staff to learn more about the STEM Trailer and how they can utilize the trailer for their events through their local CSU 4-H extension office.
10:30 am – 11:30 pm: New Member Questions – Presenter: Wendy Rhyne
Are you new to 4-H or do you have questions about the 4-H Club Program? We are here to answer those questions and provide support and guidance through the 4-H basics.
10:30 am – 11:30 am: STEM Activity: Woodworking – Wade Engel, 4-H STEM/K-12 Specialist
Are you interested in learning how to woodwork? Join us for this interactive workshop. Each participant will get to make their own personalized 4-H Clover medallion. The activity will focus on the theme “What’s your H”.
10:30 am – 11:30 pm: Needle Felting – Presenter: Paige Canetto
Learn how to Needle Felt, the oldest textile fabric known. You will learn about the supplies and the basic skills/techniques commonly used to create a small felted object. All supplies will be provided. This activity is not recommended for young participants (under age 8) as a very sharp needle with barbs will be used to create a felted work of art. Come have fun. Limited to 20 participants.
11:30 am – 12:30 pm: Tandy Leather: Leathercrafting 101 – Presenter: Dane Rogers
Have you always wanted to try your hand at leathercrafting? Come to this workshop to learn the basics and get some hands-on experience. We hope to see you there!
11:30 am – 12:30 pm: Find Your Voice: Public Speaking Made Easy – Presenter: Danielle Ardrey
Does the thought of standing up in front of a group make you nervous? Is public speaking something that you are not enthusiastic to do? You are not alone! Speaking before a group is the #1 fear in America. Come to this workshop to learn tips and tricks to help conquer this fear. We will be doing fun interactive activities that will help you feel more comfortable speaking in front of others. Plus learn some strategies for nailing your 4-H demonstrations and learn tips for success with 4-H public speaking contests. Whether you are brand new or a seasoned veteran at public speaking, this workshop will have something for everyone.
11:30 am – 12:00 pm: County Contests and YOU!
Come learn more about the contests offered through the Arapahoe County 4-H Program. There are a number of contests that help develop and show off your skills. These contests include Consumer Choices, Cake Decorating, Creative Cooks, Talent Show, Speech and Demo, and Parliamentary Procedure.
11:30 am – 12:30 pm: Animal Nutrition: Balancing Rations, Feeds, and Feeding-
Presenter: DJ Jackson
Participants will learn about the different feedstuffs that go into livestock feed and how it is formulated. We will review how rations are balanced to meet the animal’s needs.
12:30 pm -1:00 pm: Lunch
Lunch concessions will be provided and included in pre-registration for $5 benefiting the shooting sports program. Lunch will be available for purchase the day of 4-H Extravaganza at a higher cost, so register for lunch today!
12:30 pm -1:00 pm: Club Engagement – Putting the Fun Back in 4-H – Presenter: Danielle Ardrey & Jonathan Vrabec
Looking for ways to spice up your 4-H meetings? Are you having problems getting your club members involved in club activities? Are you looking for help getting members enthusiastic about what your club is doing? Join us in this participatory workshop as we focus on solutions to these common problems. Find ways to engage your club members and bring the fun back into 4-H.

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Carcass Merchandising: Presenter: Eric Pruitt
Will be presenting on the desires of Foodservice professionals to acquire local, highly sustainable proteins. We will spend time looking at the end user, and how the rancher plays a crucial role in the modern Foodservice world. Eric is am a former Executive Chef, with 17 years spent in high volume, high-quality restaurants. Six years ago he moved into Foodservice sales, currently working for JBS out of Greeley. Food is his passion, and sharing his experiences brings me great joy.
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Crochet Workshop – Presenter: Jeanette Porter
Are you excited to learn more about crochet? In this workshop, you will get to work with a scrapbook of stitches, review an online training so that you can continue your crochet skills at home, watch a demo, and maybe even receive a few items to take home!
1:30 pm – 2:00 pm: Fundraising & Promoting 4-H Events Beyond the 4-H club: 4-H Camps, Contests, and Activities- Presenters: Danielle Ardrey & Shaylen Florez
LDC, CLC, M2M, Youthfest, Creative Cook, Consumer Choices- do you know what these events are and who can attend? Join us in this informative workshop as we explore several great opportunities that are open to your 4-H members. Learn about why your club members should check them out and how your club can help support them.
2:00 pm – 3:00 pm: How to Become a Grand Champion – Presenter: Jennifer Stuck
Who wants to win Grand Champion at the Arapahoe County Fair this year? Learn tips and tricks from previous Grand Champion winners to find out what it takes to become a Grand Champion. Bring a pad of paper and something to write with to take great notes on how you can improve your showmanship and project presentations at the fair.

Come and learn different types of dog training.
2:00 pm – 3:00 pm: Horse: Saddle and Track Fitting- Presenter: Saddle Up Saddle and Tack Shop
Would you like to learn about what to look for when fitting a saddle? You will learn about saddle fit issues and what to do if your saddle causes issues or needs to be adjusted.

3:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Dance Workshop and Dance Party! – Professional Dancer, Kristin Ham
Learn some swing dance basics along with a fun line dance from a local professional dancer, Kristin Ham. Each person will learn new moves as individuals and with a partner. It will be a blast to stay for the dance party to try out the new moves we learn! Don’t miss the great fun!
